There are such things as Universal Truth. No matter what part of the world you hail from, you understand these to be true. Like energy attracts like energy. That is, what you put out is what you are going to get back. In schools we talk to our children about how attitudes are contagious and a bad mood can effect the people around you. Think about how attitudes are contagious. After being around a person that was in a bad mood, did you ever think, “Hey, YOU put me in a bad mood!” They didn’t actually, but their energy somehow rubbed off on us and effected us.
What about the symbol of the “evil eye” that is supposed to repel others negative thoughts towards you? This is a belief that can be traced to parts of Asia, Greece, Africa, and Latin and Central America. The eye is typically a blue color which correlates to the third eye, representing intuition and the ability to “see” what might not be physically there. Anyway, these “evil eyes” are supposed to bounce negative wishes towards you back to the person wishing for the ill-will. So basically, if you wish for something negative it’s actually coming for you.

The Law of Attraction states that what you put your focus and energy on will be manifested into your life. Positive energy attracts positive energy and negative energy attracts negative energy. Our thoughts are vibrational energy and so are our words. All thoughts eventually turn into things. So if you spend enough time thinking about something, don’t be surprised when it shows up on your doorstep.
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali mention this same concept. These are yogic ideas or concepts to follow in order to reach enlightenment. One of the sutras says, “When disturbed by negative thoughts, opposite [positive] ones should be thought of. This is pratipaksa bhavana.” This comes from Book Two, Sutra 33. It all comes back to balance. Balancing out those negative thoughts that occasionally creep into our minds with positive thoughts. Why? Because too much negative thinking will manifest into negative forms in reality. Even the Bible says “a man reaps what he sows” (Galatians 6:7).

For most of my 20s I conducted my life in such a way that I was not attracting what I wanted into my life without even knowing it. I didn’t realize how true these Universal Truths really are. Unknowingly, I manifested one bad relationship after another. I also manifested negative situations into my life that kept me in a constant state of “woe is me.” Why is this happening to me, I would think. Over and over again. I fell into this period of my life where I forgot to love myself devoid of any spirituality. And, it’s okay. It happens. Fortunately or unfortunately, everything happens by design too. All those unwanted situations were actually propelling me forward into the loving arms of God. And into the loving arms of myself. We have a way of bringing to ourselves exactly what we need in the exact moment that we need it.
It’s interesting that as a young kid, I always had this deeper inner knowing. I didn’t grow up knowing God, but I still wondered and felt like I knew. I had some intense dreams where I felt like I “went somewhere” while I was sleeping. I remember that vivid dream to this day but still cannot verbalize it. I always had a deeper knowing that I was part of something bigger. So, whether you grow up with spirituality in your life or not, you eventually come back to Source and remember. I wish I would have found a way to explore this deeper so many years ago. But again, it is all part of how things work themselves out. Sometimes we just get too caught up in life and ultimately ourselves to realize it one way or another.
With all that being said, we all have baggage. You can also call this past trauma. Energetic baggage. Whether it comes from childhood or adult experiences, we all carry some sort of baggage. And that is okay. The important thing is to recognize this baggage, eventually, and interrupt our way of thinking. Eventually evolving. Make peace with this baggage you “carry,” choose to love yourself anyway, and allow yourself to release it over time. When you carry something with you for years, you will not be able to immediately let it go. If I thought our world is in crisis, then we definitely are as individuals. It will take time and patience. However, it is essential work to healing oneself. One person at a time, we can heal ourselves and our world.
There are a variety of ways you can detach from unwanted energies in your life. One way is to use the smoke from burning sage to cleanse your energy. You can read more about this here. Another option is to wear jewelry with the “eye” that I spoke about earlier to help ward off any unwanted energy. You can also perform aura cleansing and chakra balancing to help calm your inner energy and feel at ease. Believe it or not, movement is the best way to bring some positivity into your life, so my go to is, of course, yoga. The movement of the body encourages the movement of energy within your body to be moved about. Then we use the breath, or pranayama, to release it outside of ourselves. Meditation allows you to observe your thought patterns and processes, eventually turning on some lightbulbs and shedding the golden light onto some inner knowledge.
This all, of course, takes time. It definitely doesn’t happen over night. I have worked for years to discover inner truths about myself and my being. I have spent all the years trying to find myself and find God, when I really knew all along. I was manifesting ever since I was a kid but didn’t have the words to describe or explain it. Whatever you put out there into the Universe, you will get back. Your thoughts are seeds of energy. Once you speak them out into the world, you are giving them the opportunity to be manifested as reality. So be careful of the words and energies, like your actions, that you are putting out there into the world. Let everything you do come from a place of Love, because I’m sure you wouldn’t want anything but that coming back your way.
Now whether you choose to believe or follow this belief, these Universal Truths, that we bring our own energy into our lives– that is completely up to you to decide.
